This site is funded by the Potato Council, designed and hosted by Fera.

This site has been produced to allow Potato Council levy payers access to the results of the aphid monitoring scheme. If you do not have access to the Potato Council website as a levy payer, you will also be unable to access the levy payer area of this site.

We also provide information on the commercial aphid monitoring service that Fera runs as well as comprehensive background information on the aphids and viruses important to see potato growers.

Although the 2010 season has not yet started, in 2009, 96 sites submitted 845 samples for analysis. The average turnaround time from a sample arriving at Fera to the results being despatched was 0.15 days. To view the results from these, click here.

Other Aphid Resources: SASA operates four suction traps collecting insects flying at a height of 12.2m above the ground to provide a standardized measure of regional aphid activity. The data are updated weekly for key species and assessments of regional risks of PVY transmission are provided using relative transmission efficiencies that are similar to those used by the Potato Council/Fera. Information on the aphid monitoring programme, part of the Scottish Seed Potato Classification Scheme, is also available here.
